Home Work Help

This program is going on since 2002. Its objective is to provide tutorials for the students to improve their grades by helping them complete their homework, and do their research projects in the center.

The program is also designed to encourage students to stay in school and reduce the dropouts caused by the lack of support. The program runs from Monday to Thursday (6:00 - 9:00 P.M.) at the community centre, and Mondays and Wednesdays at the Sifton school (6:00 P.M - 9:00 P.M). The program is a volunteer based. We have many Somalis and non-Somalis working with the children.

Resources/Drop in Center

Purpose: The center is designed to respond to the Somali community's education and work related needs. The main objective is to provide the community the means to overcome from the education and information service barriers which prevent them from pursuing a successful life style.

  • Reduced the community's school and work related stress
  • Free computers with internet and printing services available to the community at anytime

Educational Support

As the community newly arrived in Canada, it faces with new systems of education. In Canada, education is under provincial jurisdiction, so every province has its own system. The SCCSE provides individual and group support to the community when needs arise. The community helped many parents who had difficulties with their children's school and with the system.
